1830-08-29 Letter from Garrett and Mary Applegate to James Applegate

Dear son
[W]ith pleasure I inform you that we are in reasonable health at present hoping these few lines may find you and yours in good health.
I Now request a perticular favour from you and rely on your Being punctual in performing my request as a Dutifull child to a parent. [H]aving never received any compensation for my Military Servises an considering my infirm situation I have come to the conclusion to Make application to the General government for Soldiere Recompence.
I want you to get the Depesition of old Robert Applegate taken before some Justice of the Peace and send it to me. I want him to State in perticular the officers we served under and every thing relating to it which he can recollect. I will remind him of Some We served under. Col. Broadhead and Gen. Mcintosh but am not able to tell where he was when peace was Declared. I have applied to one of our Congressmen to try to obtain it for me and he states their is Nothing Lacking but the Deposition of some Person to testify that I had served as a soldier in the Revelutionary War. I want you to Do this for me imediately as soon as you recieve this as I have to be ready before Mr. Jennings starts to the Next Congress and send it to me in a letter. Direct your Letters to Mauksport post office as it is nearer than Corrysdon to us. I can obtain a pension in this wey I can be a witness for him to get him one too.
I now Must come to a close. But wish to be be rembered to John and Niomi Crookham and all who may think us worth inquiring after.
