Last will and Testament of Joseph S. Applegate of the Township of Shrewsbury County of Monmouth State of New Jersey. In the name of God, Amen. I Joseph S. Applegate of sound and disposing mind and memory do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say .

First I give devise and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Hendrickson, the lot of land known as the Appleby Lot, adjoining the farm of her son Joseph A. Hendrickson to her and her heirs and assigns forever.

Item I give devise and bequeath unto my daughter Ann Smith the lot of land known as the Poole Lot adjoining the farm of her late husband, at Tinton Falls to her and her heirs and assigns forever.

Item I direct my executors herein after named to sell my house and lot where I live at Red Bank, and my farm at Nut Swamp at public or private sale soon as convenient and advantageous so to do, and the proceeds of such sales, together with all the rest and residue of my estate, after the payment of all debts and expenses and subject to the charges hereinafter mentioned, I give and bequeath as follows.

To my executors hereinafter named, the equal one seventh part, in trust, to invest upon bond and mortgage or other good security, and the interest thereof to be paid to my son Joseph S. Applegate, during his life, or in their discretion, the said interest, to be expended directly by them toward his maintenance and support. Interest to be paid to his wife Margaret during her life and upon her decease I order that the principal be paid to his heirs at law. To my other children, Mary Hendrickson, Ann Smith, Richard Applegate, Sarah Elizabeth Cooper wife of George L. Cooper, Catharine L Hendrickson wife of William B. Hendrickson and John S. Applegate I give and bequeath the remainder of my estate in equal shares subject to the charges hereinafter mentioned.

Item Whereas I have advanced in my life time to my children sums of money as follows; to Mary Hendrickson nine hundred and sixty three dollars and nine cents; to Ann Smith ten hundred and twenty two dollars and twenty three cents; to Richard Applegate two thousand dollars, to Joseph S. Applegate two thousand dollars, to Sarah Elizabeth Cooper eight hundred and fifty four dollars to Catharine L. Hendrickson nine hundred and eleven dollars and twenty four cents to John S. Applegate five hundred and fifty dollars, which said sums I have charged against my said children in my book of account, I direct my executors in making distribution to charge each of my said children with the amount he or she has received as aforesaid, without interest, to the intent that each child should receive an equal share of my estate

Lastly, I nominate and appoint Richard Applegate and John S. Applegate executors of this my last will and testament, with full power to execute good and sufficient conveyances o my real estate In testimony whereof I have hereto affixed my hand and seal this third day of January in the year of our lord one thousand and eight hundred and eighty.
