1849-10-20 Will of Henry Applegate

Recorded March 15, 1850

In the name of God, Amen

I Henry Applegate of the township of West Windsor in the County of Mercer and State of New Jersey, being of sound mind, memory and understanding (for which blessing I thank God) do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner following that is to say

First - it is my will and I do order and direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses be duly paid and satisfied as soon as comveniently can be after my decease

Item I give and begueath unto my beloved wife Rebecca Applegate in lieu of her right of dower at common law the use of all my household goods and furniture during her natural life empowering her at any time to distribute the same, or any part thereof to such of my children as she shall think proper also I give and begueath unto my beloved wife aforesaid during her natural life the use and occupation of the homestead farm on which I now live together with all the stock of horses cattle farming utensils hay grain whether gathered or growing that she shall think necessay for the use of the said farm and it is my will that as soon after the decease of my said wife, or after my youngest child shall arrive at the age of twenty one which shall last happen, that the said farm and personal property aforesaid which shall remain, be sold by my executor.

It is my will that all the rest of my real estate be sold by my executors as soon after my decease as may be

Item I give unto my son Charles Henry Applegate on account of his name Five hundred dollars to be paid to him when the homestead farm before mentioned shall be sold and it is my will that the said five hundred dollars come out of the proceeeds of the said homestead farm and the remainder thereof to be divided among my children share and share alike

Item as my daughter Sarah Ann Hutchinson has had her outfit it is my will and I do give and bequeath unto each of my other five children the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars as their outfit to be paid to them at the age of twenty one or time of marriage which shall first happen

Item I give my double barrel gun to my son Charles Henry Applegate

Item it is my will that the proceeds of the sale of my real estate which is order to be sold as soon after my decease as may be, after paying debts, expenses and the legacies to be paid out of the same, be divided among my children share and share alike and the shares of the minors to be put at interest which interest is to be paid annually to their mother to aid her in bringing them up

I give and bequeath unto my wife my purse and its contents which may be found at my decease

Lastly, I appoint hereby my friend William D. Jewel my brother in law executor of this my last will and testament
