1823-01-03 Will of Benjamin Applegate 5F2

Will Book 2, Page 318 Allegheny County, Pennsylvania

In the name of God Amen, I Benjamin Applegate of Alleghey County and State of Pennsylvania being weak in body but of sound mind and memory and understanding blessed be God for the same but considering the uncertainty of this transitory life I make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following to with Imprimus I commend my immortal soul unto the Hands of God who gave it and my body to the earth to be buried in a decent and Christian like manner at the descretion of my executors herein after named and as to such worldly estates where of it has pleased God to bless me I give and dispose of the same in the following manner to wit

First, I give and bequeath onto my son Vincent Applegate the whole of the plantation and tract of land now in his possession for which he is paying the sum of five hundred dollars in manner following to wit fifty dollars to Hannah Applegate, twenty five dollars to Nancy Applegate fifty dollars to Thomas Applegate children of my son Walter Applegate deceased

Item I give and bequeath unto Harvey Applegate one hundred dollars and unto Harrison Applegate fifty dollars children of my son Vincent Applegate

Item I give and bequeath unto my granddaughter Elizabeth Holcroft one hundred dollars to be equally divided among her children by Stella Holcroft

I give and bequeath unto John Applegate fifty dollars and to Benjamin Applegate one hundred dollars sons of my son Benjamin (deceased).

Item I give and bequeath unto my son Garret Applegate one hundred dollars

Item I give and bequeath unto my son Richard six hundred dollars deducting one hundred dollars already paid him by my son James Applegate

Item I give and bequeath unto my son James Applegate the whole of the interest arising from his bond due me.

I give and bequeath unto my son Vincent all and every article of my table furniture item

I give and bequeath unto Nancy Applegate afore named my bed, chests of drawers, pots, kettles, big wheel, and looking glass.

The aforesaid bequests to be paid out of my outstanding debts and personal property remaining at my decease.

After all just debts and funeral expenses shall be paid, and in case there shall remain some money after paying the same it is my will and desire that it be equally divided between the male children of my sons Richard, Vincent, Benjamin, James and Walter by his last wife.

The above mentioned sum of five hundred dollars to be paid by Vincent Applegate to be paid as the children come of age with-out interest

And I Hereby constitute and ordain my good friends Phillip Smith and William Mencon sole executers of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all other wills or testaments by me at any time heretofore and in witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal this twentieth day of January in the year of our Lord 1821.

Codicil

This is my will, I desire that the goods left in my will above mentioned that I give to Nancy Applegate is deceased since I mad this will. I give to my granddaughter Vincent Applegate/Delilah Applegate one half of the goods the first choys [choice] & and the othet half I leave to my granddaughter Benjamin Applegate/Orpha Applegate the other half of the said goods. The twenty five dollars I willed to Nancy Appelgate I _____-- _____my_____
