1787-10-14 Will of John Applegate 5E9

New Jersey Wills 7261L

In the name of God Amen. I John Applegate Junior of the County of Middlesex and State of New Jersey being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God for the same and calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say

principably and first of all I bequeath my soul into the hands of God who gave it and for my body I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a Christian like and decent manner at the discretion of my Executors but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the Almighty Power of God, and as touching such worldly estate where with God hath presented to me in this life;

in the first place I desire all my debts and funeral charges be paid of and satisfied.

Then I give devise and Dispose of the remainder in the manner and form following: that is to say

in the first place I give and bequeath to my son William Applegate and my daughter Keziah Applegate and my daughter Elizabeth Jeffers the sum of five shillings each of the monies arising from said estate to them and their Heirs or assigns forever

then I give and bequeath unto my other children after named and Jane Sheerman the daughter of my daughter Elizabeth Jeffers all my Land Estate and possessions that I now have in possession of to them and their and their assigns forever the same Land shall be sold within a year after my decease and the monies arising from the said Land Estate shall be equally divided between my three sons and three daughters and Jane Sheerman my grand daughter the daughter of my daughter Elizabeth Jeffers that is John Applegate, Samuel Applegate and Israel Applegate and my three daughters and grand daughter that is Sarah, Rebeckah and Hannah and Jane Sheerman my above named grand daughter to them their Heirs forever in case any of my said children shall die before the division is made then the survivers to divide the same as above said to them and their heirs forever

then I give all my moveables unto my last three named sons and three last named daughters and they shall to be equally divided amongst them share and share alike and if in case they cannot agree on their divisions it is my desire they should be sold and the monies arising from them to be divided equally alike as above mentioned

and for the true performances I nominate and constitute and appoint my son John and Aaron Bennet junior my Lawfully Executors of this my last will and testament and no other:

I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke and disowne all and every other former wills and testaments Legacies and Executors be in any way before this last named Willed and bequeathed ratified and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this fourteenth Day of October in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty seven

Signed sealed Published Pronounced and Delivered by the said John Applegate as his last will and testament in the presents of the witnesses
