In the name of God Amen.

I, John Douthitt Applegate, being of sound mind, disposing memory & earnest intention, do make and publish this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all others.

Item One. I desire that all my just debts and funeral expenses be first paid.

Item Two. I give and devise to my daughter Sarah Ellen my two houses and lots in Louisville, Kentucky on the south side of Green Street between Thirteenth and Fourteenth Streets and my two houses and lots on the north side of Grayson Street in said city between said Thirteenth and Fourteenth Streets.

Item Three. I give and devise to my daughter Julia Bruner Applegate my two houses and lots in Louisville Kentucky. One on cited north side of Grayson Street between Ninth and Tenth Streets and the other on the south side of Green Street between said Ninth and Tenth Streets.

Item Four. I give and devise to my four children America Steele, Nannie Coons, Florence Robinson and James Applegate my farm in Clark County Indiana known as the Flatwoods farm containing 140 acres more or less of bottom land adjacent to Locust Grove in said Clark County Indiana.

Item Five. I give and devise to my brother John R Applegate the ninety three acres and the forty acres surveyed to me by him by deed dated 28th August 1862 and recorded in Deed Book 52 pages 262 & 263 & which lie in Clark County Indiana for and during his the said John R. Applegate's natural life. After his death I devise the same to go to my children share & share alike.

Item Six. I desire that after any debts are paid that my personal property of every kind shall be divided among my children share and share alike except that I wish Julia and Sallie to have my horse gig and the family carriage. All the remainder of my personalty after payment of debts to be equally divided among all my children.

Item Seven. I nominate for my executor my daughter Sarah Ellen Applegate and request that she be not required to give surety in qualifying as such executor.
