  1. 2.  Jonas Soloman died May 1815, Onslow County, North Carolina, USA.

    Other Events:

    • Residence: 1757, Upper Freehold Township, Monmouth County, New Jersey, USA

    Notes:

Contrary to Voress and others, Jonas Solomon did not die prior to 1788. Instead, he abandoned Hannah and his children and went to North Carolina. He assumed the name of a neighbor, Thomas Henderson, and began a new life there.

In May of 1815, Jonas Solomon/Thomas Henderson died intestate in North Carolina. Somehow, his children in New Jersey--Catherine, John, Rebecca, Levi, and Jonas--found out about it and petitioned for their share of the intestate estate. The probate record is murky, but they apparently reached a setlement with Alexander Henderson, one of the NC children of Jonas Solomon/Thomas Henderson.

The estate seems to have been a mess. In 1819, Alexander Henderson petitioned the court to order Lott Ballard, the administrator, to pay over his share. Ballard answered that "he has not been able to to arrange his accounts, or to state precisely what amt has been collected by him from the outstanding claims of the s'd Thomas nor to shew what amounts have been disbursed on a/c of the Estate . . . ." He further answered that he was being sued in federal court and that he had a claim against the estate for his costs of defense in that suit.
