APPLEGATE, Dorothy Eleanor (Melke), age 86, passed away on Monday, August 2, 2010, at Hospice of Dayton. Dottie was born in Dayton, Ohio, on January 11, 1924 to the late Charles Martin and Rhea (Dunham) Melke. Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She was an extremely kind, giving, appreciative and wonderful woman, with a gentle face, loving smile and never spoke an unkind word. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of V.F.W. Post 5018 and American Legion Post 613 and was a committee woman. Dottie is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Ted (Butch) and Sandy Applegate, Ned and Kathy Applegate; (nephew raised as a son) Richard and Sandy Melke and family; sister, Helen Marshall; brother-in-law, Paul and Deanna Applegate; five surviving grandchildren, Scott, Connor, Mitchell, Karly Applegate and Allen Dean; four great-grandchildren, Michael, Sarah, Ted and Tom; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family who dearly loved her. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ted, former Harrison Township Fire Chief; her son, Timothy; grandson, Douglas; brothers, Jim, Dan, Henry; and sisters, Rita and Delores. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 6, 2010, at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-BEAVERCREEK CHAPEL, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road at Grange Hall Road, with Father Chris Worland officiating. Interment will follow in Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery, 8131 N. Dixie Dr., Dayton, OH.
