  Notes	TFA claims John died Jan 1873 at Mineral City, White Pine County, NV, bur. Lone Mountain Cemetery, Carson City, Carson Co., NV. (TFA # 42366874). This cannot be correct. Numerous sources place a John Applegate—an employee and stationkeeper of the Pony Express—at Dry Creek as early as 1860. See, e.g., http://www.xphomestation.com/nvsta-drycreek.html. This John Applegate was shot by Paiute Indians in May of 1860. http://www.nps.gov/history/history/online_books/poex/hrs/hrs8a.htm. Considering John was born in 1854, it is impossible for any of TFA’s speculations about his death to be correct.
