To all persons who shall see these presents: Know ye that I, Thomas Appel, Sr. of Middletowne, in East Jersey, being sick of body but of sound mindand disposing, doe make and ordain this my last will and Testament.

Item I Will all my debts be paid.

Item I give my sonn, Thomas Applegate, one shilling. I give my sonn John one shilling. I give to my sonn Danaiel one shilling. I give to my sonnJoseph, one shilling. I give to my daughter Elizabeth one shilling to be paid by my executrix, hereinafter named. I give, bequeath and devise untomy sonn Benjamin, fifty acres of land to him and his heirs. I giveth and devise to my sonn Richard and his heirs fifty acres of land, whichaforementioned one hundred acres I had of my father-in-law Richard Gibbons, as will appear on my record, and lies in Nut Swamp, for the aforesaidBenjamin and Richard Applegate to possess and enjoy the said land at the the age of twenty one years, and if either of my said sonns, is to say,Benjamin and Richard, should die before they attain the age of 21 years my will is the survivor of them shall have the aforementioned one hundredacres of land and their heirs.

Item I give, devise and bequeath to my loving wife, Johanna, all the land and real estate I have in the world (except one hundred acres beforegiven) to her and her heirs forever. I give, bequeath and devise my house and one hundred acres of before mentioned land given to my sonns, Benjaminand Richard, unto my loving wife, Johanna, till my sons Benjamain and Richard attain the age of twenty-one years. After my debts and legacies arepaid, I give unto my loving wife, Johanna, all my personal estate in the world, and I make my loving wife sole and whole executrix of this my lastwill and testament.

Dated in Middletown the first day of February in the year 1698.
